If you're a childcare director in California and you haven't heard about the fire code changes coming in January 2027, you're not alone, and that's part of the problem. In 2022, the State Fire Marshal changed the occupancy rules for centers serving children under 36 months, and most of us only found out when our fire clearance was denied. The Legislature bought us time with AB 176, but the new permanent standards are being written as you read this. What will they require? Will you need sprinklers? How will it affect your license? We're dedicating a session at CQEL's Spring Conference on March 13 in Sacramento to discuss all of this.
